What is Young Methodists for Tradition?

We are a group of young Methodists who have watched as our church, the United Methodist Church has fallen to secularism and denial, and in result is collapsing. We seek to preserve the traditional and institutional elements of the United Methodist Church and return our church to its old glory through Youth participation.

We began in the summer of 2023, after a call was sent out for a Reformation or ‘Reconquista’ of the Mainline Protestant churches. Several United Methodist youth and young adults joined this movement with the intent to prevent the spread of theological progressivism and preserve the churches of the United Methodist Church that could be saved.

An initial council of five United Methodist youth, Gabriel Ervin of the Michigan Conference, Tanner R. Strunk of the Desert Southwest Conference, Patrick Cluff of the Virginia Conference, as well as Jon Burris and Parker Chadwick of undisclosed conferences were chosen to lead this group and in turn helped to found the Young Methodists for Tradition, who have organized and are looking to spread its reach to help restore and revive the church to its former glory.

Since the foundation, the Young Methodists for Tradition have taken part of a major action to bring awareness to the overarching Protestant Reconquista and their own efforts by posting, mailing, and emailing thousands of copies of their own 95 Theses to the United Methodist Church on Reformation Day, 2023. This was met with responses from news organizations, as well as responses from faithful pastors who supported the theses and progressive pastors who condemned the theses. All of which started a renewed discussion about the staying true to the fundamentals of the faith; and a young person’s role in the UMC.

After the Reformation Day success; the Young Methodists for Tradition continued and continues to organize and create structure and connections to important figures, institutions, and organizations that have effect with the United Methodist Church and its sphere. And the mission continues; and you, yes, you, are invited to help the church find God by becoming the church leader that you know you could be.

May God guide us all.
